Wireless Internet Providers ? Who is Best? | Internet Technology

So you want to get wireless internet for your laptop, but you?re not sure what you?re options are huh? This short article will help you to choose the best mobile internet provider based on your circumstances. There a few criteria you should consider when choosing a mobile internet provider to receive wireless internet for laptops. They are:

Monthly Rate: Wireless internet for laptops is generally a little more expensive than internet for your home. A mobile internet provider generally charges $45-80 a month for their service with $60 a month being average.

-Lowest Cost Provider: CLEAR Wireless 4G, Cricket Wireless 3G ($45/month)
-Highest Cost Provider: Sprint Wireless 3G/4G, CLEAR Wireless 3G/4G, Qwest Wireless ($80/month)

Contract: Wireless internet providers generally require a 2 year contract. There are some however that do not require 2 year contracts and offer a month-to-month agreement option. Generally the cell phone companies will require 2 year contracts.

-Companies that Offer Monthly Agreements: CLEAR Wireless and Cricket Wireless
-Companies that Require 2 Year Contracts: Verizon, Qwest, AT&T, and Sprint

Download Speed: There is a large variance in download speeds amongst mobile internet providers. The slowest provider, Cricket Wireless, provides download speeds of 0.5-1.5 Mbps. The cell phone companies (Verizon, Qwest, Sprint 3G, and T-Mobile) offer wireless internet speeds of 0.5-2.0 Mbps. CLEAR Wireless offers mobile internet speeds of 2.5-10 Mbps. The reason for the great difference in download speeds is that CLEAR and Sprint operate a 4G wireless broadband network, whereas Cricket and the other cell phone providers use a 3G network.

-Slowest Download Speeds: Cricket Wireless, Qwest Wireless
-Fastest Download Speeds: CLEAR Wireless and Sprint Wireless (4G)

Coverage: There are differences in mobile internet coverage amongst the wireless internet providers also. 4G wireless networks have not been built nationwide yet so its coverage is somewhat limited. Currently 4G is available in over 25+ metropolitan areas nationwide (as of Jan 2010). Some of the larger city areas with coverage include Las Vegas, Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Baltimore and Chicago. Because of this limited coverage, 4G coverage with CLEAR and Sprint are only offered in certain areas. By the end of 2010 however, 4G will be available in 80+ cities. 3G on the other hand is available pretty much nationwide, although it is somewhat limited for rural coverage.

-3G Coverage Only: Verizon, Qwest, T-Mobile
-4G Only Option: CLEAR Wireless
-Both 3G and 4G: CLEAR Wireless and Sprint Wireless

As you have probably now gathered, you have lots of options when it comes to mobile internet for laptops. What wireless internet provider you decide on will probably depend on the preceding criteria I have discussed. I hope that this article helps you to make an informed decision in choosing your wireless internet provider. If you require further assistance, please check out my resource box and website below.

Buying Commercial Real Estate Using Tricky Short Sale Tactics ...

Like the traditional real estate investing model, short sale investing is based around the idea of finding and buying properties at a discount. Moreover, buying right is also important in the short sale business. The primary difference between the two models concerns the holding time and exit strategy used to profit on the deal. The most common exit strategy in the short sale business is a back-to-back closing where a property is bought and sold in the same day. This reduces the need to buy at 65 percent of the as-is value because there are no rehab or holding costs. This gives investors more options that can be pursued and a greater opportunity to generate more business.

In the example below, the subject property is in foreclosure and the mortgages are equal to or close to the ARV. Despite the recent interest in short sale investing, competition is still low. Many investors will not touch a property that is fully leveraged or over-leveraged and in foreclosure. For those investors that will, many do not have the complete understanding of the process necessary to make the short sale transaction work. A short sale deal involves several moving parts and requires a working knowledge of how these parts fit together. For those willing to take the extra time to really learn all facets of the residential real estate business, the results are rewarding, almost overwhelming. One attractive aspect of short sales is the limited exposure they offer the investor in the terms of risk. In learning how to successfully complete a back-to-back transaction involving a short sale, the investor greatly reduces risk while increasing profit potential. The quick-turn eliminates holding costs and the uncertainty of buying a property with the hopes of selling for a profit. If structured correctly a short sale property can be acquired, negotiated and sold in such a way that the investors risk level is minimal, almost eliminated entirely. In essence, a property is bought only when it?s already being sold.

Traditionally, investors looked for properties with equity to be bought at a steep discount, rehabbed and sold. Properties that are candidates for short sales are in foreclosure and have no equity and thus most investors do not pursue them. The opportunity to buy and sell properties in foreclosure through short sale negotiations is huge. With the collapse of sub-prime lending, the possibility of finding houses to buy using the short sale method have never been more plentiful. For this reason short sales have become a buzzword in the real estate industry. Take away the risks associated with traditional investing ? the holding costs, contractors, rehab, financing ? and add to it the ability to quick-turn properties and it?s no surprise that short sales have become so rewarding.

Each state and county has their own rules and laws pertaining to real property. Likewise, each state also processes a foreclosure according to their procedures and laws; however, some uniformity does exist. Most investors live and work in a judicial foreclosure state while some work exclusively in a non-judicial foreclosure state. A judicial foreclosure state is one where a lawsuit (called a complaint) is required to start the foreclosure process. Attached to the complaint are other documents that are served on the homeowner. These additional documents include a copy of the promissory note signed by the borrower or homeowner, along with the mortgage signed by the borrower or homeowner. Promissory notes are IOUs: this is what is really valuable. The mortgage backs up the IOU as collateralize by the real estate. The promissory note and mortgage are exhibits on the foreclosure complaint. If you are working on a short sale, get those papers. Information such as the interest rate, when the loan was originated, and all sorts of other valuable information are on those documents. The lawsuit starts when filed at the courthouse, but cannot proceed until the homeowner, or borrower are served with the complaint and other papers. This is usually done by certified mail, a sheriff?s deputy or a process server. Once the papers have been served, the lawsuits clock begins to tick. The bank prefers to move as quickly as possible usually varies 20 to 28 days state to state but investors will need additional time to negotiate a deal with the lender.

LEAFLET ? Blog Archive ? Intercultural education ? meeting the ...

What lies in the concept??intercultural education?? In this post will discuss the theories from Kamil ?zerk?when?analysing?this term.I wish to?take into account the?multicultural society which lies underneath to understand where the concept has been given its roots.?Furthermore, I wish to discuss different approaches and?options towards adopting such an education in Norwegian schools.

The term ?intercultural?education? can be defined as an education where cultures meet and take part of each other in cooperation.?It can be looked as an opposite against??multicultural education?, where we learn about how different cultures are, and meet them only objectified.

The core of intercultural education lies within a meeting point where both the majority and minority culture take part, acknowledge and understand each other. The idea is that students should use their own internal references and use it in their learning process. By taking advantage of their own reference field, they assimilate it with something they already know, internalizing the new learning material into their former knowledge. In this way, students can both share the world in which they meet as individuals, and also reorganize their knowledge when encountering other perspectives. Schools are in this matter seen as a melting plot where cultures meet; by taking into account the students own resources and knowledge, creating a better and more democratic education than that which has been the case until now.

The background for intercultural education lies primarily in the multicultural dimension in which society stands against. The demographic changes in Norway, has led to big changes in lifespan, cultural groups and new paradigms of thought. There are challenges which can both enhance and decrease welfare. There is today, awareness of the fact that there are different ways of being Norwegian. One agrees that there should be freedom to be able to choose a preferred lifestyle, language one wishes to speak, and which culture one seeks?belongingness?to. There seems to be no problem being connected to different cultures ? so overall there is a big YES to multiculturalism.

On the other hand, there has been shed light over the multicultural society. One starts to question whether our society is characterized by diversity or multiculturalism. We are no longer today the ideal Norwegian society, as characterized by our forefathers. There lies a tension within the Norwegians themselves over what seems to be a question of origin; the Norwegian culture seems itself to be a culture within the diversity of many others. ?zerk describes this as living in a state of diversified society. Modernization with its radical features, has led to a notion of living in a borderless society, where the borders are in a tension against each other. Do we wish plurality or marginality? Diversity or similarity? Should the collective or individuals come first? These dimensions have led to a radicalization of the educational dimensions creating new ways of organizing and structuring the learning process, also introduced as ?intercultural education?. ?According to ?zerk if we pursue a policy of intercultural education as such, it will take into account these tensions and meet them in community. Through democratization and rational actions one can create both peace and profitable learning options.

However, ?zerks theories also shed light on the problems and main issues concerning intercultural education. One can ask what kind of education do we prefer? Should be such an education that it includes all? Or should the minorities have special rights? According to ?zerk, concept of similarity has different dimensions. For example, there?s a great agreement today that social background?shouldn?t?decide ones education or competence. Resource equality like for example; special rights for minorities, special needs education, native language education, economic support, should be able to secure such a result.

Further on, one can also discuss whether or not equality in education enables other perspectives. According to ?zerk, Norwegian schools are in unity when they compete internationally with other nations. Results from single individuals are seen as part of a unity among all the Norwegian students. In this matter intercultural education can enhance the minorities and majority?s possibility to learn from each other, and together improve the overall results when competing internationally.

Last but not least, bilingualism and culture as resources enable new dimensions in Norwegian schools and employment. The gap between culture diminishes eventually, descendants of the first generations are about to grow up. Norwegian schools should therefore build up possibilities to use these students as resources when being challenged against new problems. According to NOU-reports, descendants follow a new road in which none of their generations before have been. To facilitating options and educations for them is therefore a big need.

By way of conclusion, one can say that intercultural education requires both obstacles and options when meeting new challenges. In this article, I have tried to explain the educational dimensions of the multicultural society within structure of today?s modern society.

No doubt society has to be changed, and continue to change, but education can and should strive to be the first step towards changing these paradigms and structures in a positive way ? meeting the needs of current and future dilemmas.

Write Poetry To Increase ... - Technology And Entertainment Education

Poetry is one of those literary genres that instill a fear in students, particularly in the middle school arena. Metaphor, sonnet, acrostic, haiku, rhyme, prose, or free verse are examples of hundreds of poetry terms and forms. Confusing for a young impressionable mind to absorb, poetry is often a subject to avoid, and if unavoidable, often solicits a desire to cheat to succeed. Throughout the internet, are sites where students ask questions soliciting someone to explain or write them poetry to complete a homework assignment.

Poetry is not a written or spoken form to be feared, rather should be the educational tool that teaches reading, writing and the arts as no other single genre is capable.

Writing poetry ought to be fun allowing students to express their feelings, beliefs, and experiences without the restriction of initially teaching them to write and interpret forms of poetry that are difficult for most to understand and usually result in a lifelong hatred of the arts and poetry in particular.

Poetry is the absolute beauty of the human heart expressing emotion in a form that delights and leaves the reader with a feeling of contentment in one spectrum, and a feeling of remorse in another. No other form of writing has the ability and power to inspire the emotion created through poetry.

Teaching students to interject their thoughts and emotions in poetic verse earns enormous benefits which may be applied to virtually any subject. We do not normally think of poetry as a tool for understanding history, music, literature, art, or mathematics yet through poetry, learning may actually become fun.

Free Verse is the ideal form to use as the first poetic style to teach students. As they learn to express themselves and gain confidence, they may be introduced to the terms and other forms of poetry to increase their base of knowledge for future benefit.

What is Free Verse? It is a type of poetry that has no set pattern or style. Since there are no set rules for form, some may rhyme, use some rhyme or not rhyme at all. If rhyme is used, it is important to not stress the rhyme; do not rhyme for the sake of rhyming. Since most poetry written today is free verse and generally incorporates limited use of rhyme, many people are under the false impression, if the verse does not rhyme, it is not poetry. Poetry does not require rhyme to be poetry. The following is an example of free verse without rhyme.

The Mouse

When the owl screeches and the wolf howls,
the mouse lies quietly in the field.

Is it the influence of the moon,
a demonstration of anger,
or celebration?
For the mouse cares not
the reason.

His destiny the same,
whether the owl or the wolf,
he fulfills their need.

Free Verse poetry is evolving as patriotic, humorous, about nature, prior experience, as serious or complex, it matters not the subject; any theme may be written as free verse. This is a very flexible style of poetry and why people of all nations, educational backgrounds, and experience enjoy writing free verse and why it is so popular. As an educational asset, take my advice; use free verse to write poetry that increases confidence and ability, changing young minds into sponges of creativity.

Novartis drug may help older breast cancer patients (Reuters)

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) ? Novartis's bone drug Zometa extended survival in older breast cancer patients but failed to improve disease-free survival among younger women patients in a large-scale clinical trial, researchers said on Sunday.

Detailed data presented at the European Multidisciplinary Cancer Congress (EMCC) in Stockholm showed that Zometa, a bisphosphonate drug known generically as zoledronic acid, only improved overall survival rates in patients who had undergone the menopause at least five years earlier.

Researchers said the effect was likely to be linked to levels of reproductive hormones, which are lower in women who have been through the menopause.

"This is not a treatment for ever woman with breast cancer," said Robert Coleman of Britain's Sheffield University, who led the study. But for women with low levels of female hormones, either due to aging or specific treatments to induce menopause, Zometa "appears very promising."

An analysis of the subset of older patients showed that at a the five-year follow-up, there was a 26 percent reduction in recurrence of tumors, Coleman said, as well as a 26 percent reduction in the risk of an early death.

These strong results could lead to "a major new treatment approach" for post-menopausal patients, he said.

Zometa, which generated sales of $2.1 billion for Novartis in 2010, is an intravenous drug from a widely used class of osteoporosis medicines called bisphosphonates.

It is increasingly being prescribed to help reduce or delay fractures and other skeletal complications in a variety of cancers that have spread to the bones. From 65 to 75 percent of breast cancer recurrences occur in the bones.

This trial, called AZURE and also published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Sunday, involved 3,360 women with early-stage breast cancer from 174 centers in Britain, Australia, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Taiwan and Thailand.

Patients randomly allocated receive standard chemotherapy and/or hormone therapy, either with or without the addition of Zometa, a drug that works by inhibiting the cells that break down bone, called osteoclasts.

The results showed that looking across all trial participants, there was no significant difference in disease-free survival or overall survival between patients who received Zometa and those who didn't. But in a subset of older patients, the addition of the Novartis drug did bring clear benefits.

These women, who had at least five years since their last period, had an overall survival rate at five years of 85 percent on Zometa compared with 79 percent for those not on the drug. For all other patients, overall five-year survival was similar, at 86 percent in the Zometa group and 85 percent in the control group.

Investigators said that most surprising among the findings was the drug's effect on the rate at which the cancer recurred outside the bone. The relative risk for developing metastases, or secondary tumors, outside bone during treatment with Zometa was approximately halved in the postmenopausal women compared with the younger patients.

Coleman said the results shed new light on the role bones may play in the progress of the disease.

"The effects on metastasis and recurrence outside bone suggests that the bone marrow is an important sanctuary for tumor cells which can be activated after, sometimes, many years of dormancy," he said. "With help from bone marrow stem cells, they may then spread via the blood stream to set up metastases at other sites."

Calif. bars rejoice: infused alcohol ban lifted (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO ? In this city famous for food and drink experimentation, so-called "craft" bartenders have fought for three years to overturn a Prohibition-era state law that banned bars from infusing flavors into alcohol.

Bartenders, worry no longer.

On Wednesday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law repealing the ban on imbuing alcohol in bars and restaurants with fresh flavors.

The antiquated law was forgotten until 2008, when the state Department of Alcohol Beverage Control ? after noticing an increasing number of Bay Area bars infusing booze with their own flavors ? issued an advisory telling its licensees that "rectification" of distilled spirits at their businesses was illegal.

While no bars or restaurants ever received fines or were cited under the law, owners in San Francisco, where the practice is common and growing quickly, said the fear of fines or revoked liquor licenses stifled creativity and a burgeoning new business. There were reports of raids on some city bars by ABC, and stern warnings of fines.

"At the end of the day, no one would be telling a chef that they can't take a beautiful Italian olive oil and mix it with a clove of garlic and make a great garlic olive oil," said Josh Harris, a bartender and owner of The Bon Vivants, a cocktail and spirits consulting company, who helped organize an online petition in support of lifting the ban.

"To us, it's the same thing."

The chorus of boos shouted by bar and restaurant owners_many of whom did not know the law existed_ was heard by state Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco. Leno's district includes North Beach and the bayside, where a good chunk of tourism and city nightlife resides.

"Especially in a down economy, it makes absolutely no sense for the government to be infringing with the creativity of small businesses for no viable public policy reason," Leno said.

State alcohol and beverage regulators said the law started with public health in mind. In the days of Prohibition, it was meant to protect consumers from bath-tub gin. It also sought to prevent establishments from adding ingredients that could prove dangerous.

Matthew Botting, general counsel for the ABC, said the law was never an issue until recent years, when inspectors noticed the infused alcohol during routine inspections.

"There were some inspections being conducted, which had nothing to do with this issue, in the Bay Area, where certain questions were asked about `What are you doing with this?' People were dropping herbs and spices into bottles and displaying them on the bar. It was more of a passing comment than anything else," Botting said.

"ABC has never cited or fined anyone for this, and has never directed anyone to pour their stuff out. It was a tempest in a teapot," he said.

Yet the warnings were enough to energize bar owners, who were investing their money on the popularity of infused alcoholic drinks. Leno arranged meetings with his constituents and regulators.

At first the ABC's staff defended the law, saying public health was the target of the ban, Leno said.

"We asked the ABC at the meetings, `In all these years you have not been enforcing this law, how many reports of ill health have there been?,'" he said. "Not a one they could recount."

In the end, ABC officials said the law needed to be stricken from the books for them to be able to do anything. They simply couldn't ignore it.

Most other lawmakers in Sacramento agreed the ban was bad for business, and the Leno-sponsored bill, SB 32, received bipartisan support.

The repeal's signing could not have been timelier. It came amid San Francisco cocktail week.

Libyan-American recalls horror in Gadhafi prison

After blindfolding Abdulmoneim Tabuni, a prison guard put a gun to his head and told him to "say a prayer."

It was the most harrowing moment of the Libyan-American research scientist's six-month imprisonment in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, as fighting raged across the North African country to oust embattled leader Moammar Gadhafi.

Tabuni, a 55-year-old father of five, suffered other horrors at the hands of Gadhafi's henchmen: He was beaten twice, forced to share a cramped cell with others who took out their anger on him and had to endure the almost daily crackle of gunfire filtering in from outside ? all while being held a short distance from his home.

Despite the horrors, Tabuni ? who lost some 60 to 70 pounds ? is not focused on taking revenge against his captors but on crafting a new future for his homeland.

"We should think about the future not the past," he told msnbc.com in a telephone interview from Tripoli. People should be held accountable if they did killings, beatings or torture, but there should also "be forgiveness and reconciliation."

Tabuni, who returned to his homelandin 2006 to care for his ailing mother, attracted the attention of Gadhafi's security apparatus on Feb. 7 ? 10 days before the first protests erupted. He said he was questioned by national security officers about emails they accused him of sending to encourage people to join the upcoming demonstrations, which Tabuni says he never sent. He was eventually released and allowed to return home ? but not for long.

After violent protests on Feb. 17, security forces arrested his nephew for uploading a photo onto Facebook showing dead demonstrators in the eastern opposition stronghold of Benghazi.

Tabuni went with his nephew to the security center, thinking he would be able to bring him home. Instead, both were arrested.

'Grave cell'
So began Tabuni's odyssey through dark halls and dim cells, first at the national internal security center and later in the notorious Abu Salim prison, where an estimated 1,200 inmates were killed in a 1996 massacre, according to Human Rights Watch.Among the first participants in the February protests were families who lost loved ones in the prison massacre, Ahmed El-Gasir, of the Libya-focused Human Rights Solidarity organization, said earlier this year .

At the security center, Tabuni lived for three months in what he called a "grave cell" ? a 3-by-6-foot room ? using a water bottle as a pillow. There was no toilet in the cell, and prisoners were only allowed to go to the restroom three times a day, so Tabuni said he hardly touched the food and water he was given in order to avoid having to urinate or defecate in his cell.

Prisoners weren't allowed to talk and could hardly see one another, since little sunlight penetrated the jail. Tabuni, who didn't even know his nephew was being held in a nearby cell, recalled guards beating an older man merely for saying "good morning" to fellow prisoners.

One morning, he was taken out of his cell and blindfolded, then led to an interrogation where a guard put a gun to his head and said: "Say a prayer" three times.

"I said my prayer because I thought ? that was the end of my life," he said. "Those moments, anything can happen to you. I knew, these people, the guards, they can do anything."

Such incidents made Tabuni prefer confinement.

"When they take you out of the cell ? You don't know what is going to happen to you ? they're going to kill you ? beat you, torture you," he said. "Staying inside is the safest place."

His wife, Ghaed Bagegni,? knew he had been detained but, as time passed, didn't know if he was still alive. Ironically, she could see the security center from their home where she sheltered with the couple's youngest son (the other sons and a daughter were in the U.S.).

Tabuni, meanwhile, knew little about what was going on outside ? only what he could glean from newly arrived prisoners.

"You are in a cave. You don't know what's happening outside," he said, noting he didn't believe that NATO had started bombing Libya until he learned such news from a newly arrived prisoner.

Slideshow: Conflict in Libya (on this page)

The guards moved him to Abu Salim prison on May 14, where three guards beat him ? in what he called a "welcoming reception" ? using electric wire and metal pipes before depositing him in a 6-by-8-foot cell with four to five others. He said there was a bathroom in the cell, but he couldn't wash because they were only given salty water.

"We didn't go outside for exercise," he recalled. "We didn't see the sun."

Tabuni said he was beaten a second time on the face and back a month later during a harsh interrogation, and still experiences pain.

He also was targeted by some of the other prisoners, who apparently picked him out because of his education, the respect he got from other prisoners or simply because he was "weakest person to attack."

"I prayed to God that they'd send me back, the guards would send me back, to the old cell ? because in the old cell you had (the space) by yourself," he said.

Sacrificing 'for a better Libya'
On Aug. 24, people living around Abu Salim learned that the guards had fled as rebel forces advanced in Tripoli so they brought hammers and began breaking the locks to the prison's main gate. The prisoners did not believe they were about to be freed until people began breaking the locks to their section ? and then they were afraid for their safety even as they were getting out, Tabuni said.

They wanted to be released, "but you don't want to get killed" by any pro-Gadhafi forces that might still be around, he said.

After the cheering, Libyans wary but optimistic

Human Rights Watch officials say they don't know how many people were arrested over the six months of the uprising, "but certainly it was in the thousands," said spokesman Fred Abrahams, a spokesman for the organization in Tripoli, in an email to msnbc.com. Most were men, roughly between the age of 18 and 50, including some Libyan dual nationals and Americans, includingMatthew VanDyke, a filmmaker and writer from Baltimore who was held in solitary confinement for six months.

"We heard consistent and disturbing reports from former detainees about regular beatings, torture and, in the closing days, executions," Abrahams said. "In one case, 19 detainees suffocated to death in a metal shipping container. Some were held in the established prisons, such as Jdeida and Abu Salim in Tripoli, but many were held in makeshift facilities, frequently abandoned company grounds. None of the people we interviewed had had any form of judicial process, let alone access to a lawyer. Some were arrested for having used arms but many were arrested for having peacefully opposed their government."

Tabuni's 27-year-old daughter, Olaa Tabuni, who lives in California, said words couldn't describe her emotions during her father's detention, especially when prisoners were released and told reporters how they "were humiliated and tortured."

Interactive: Libya uprising: The latest (on this page)

"After hearing the prisoners were released and not hearing from my father, I panicked and I was worried that something might have happened to him," she wrote to msnbc.com. "I couldn't function properly after that, I couldn't sleep or eat. I think those weeks were the most depressing days of my life. Now I exactly know how the families who lost oppressed loved ones in prisons feel."

Tabuni, whose ailing mother died last year, said he elected to remain in his homeland, working in the medical industry to try "to bring something useful to the country."

But now, he is spending his newfound freedom working as a human rights activist ? a mantle he first took up while living in the U.S. He is working on a civil society forum, a prisoner's advocacy group and a human rights organization. Last week, he recently helped collect money, food and medicine for the remaining few areas held by pro-Gadhafi forces.

He said he would stay in Libya "until I feel that I am no longer needed."

"People sacrificed themselves," he noted, citing the reports of tens of thousands of people who disappeared during the uprising. "Why did they do that? So they would have a better Libya."

Despite what happened to him in prison, and ongoing food, water and electricity shortages in Tabuni, said he has no regrets.

"The whole experience is worth it," he said. "The freedom for people ? that they can breathe freedom ? so it was worth all of the effort."

AP Exclusive: Police investigate Iran nuke expert (AP)

VIENNA ? A colleague of a nuclear scientist shot dead recently in Tehran is being investigated by Iranian security services who suspect him of leaking information leading to the killing, says an intelligence summary shared with The Associated Press.

The report by an International Atomic Energy Agency member nation identifies the colleague as Mojtaba Dadashnejad. It says he worked with the victim, Darioush Rezaeinejad, on suspected Iranian attempts to make a component used in nuclear weapons.

Rezaeinejad was shot in July. An official from a member nation of the Vienna-based IAEA said at the time the victim helped develop high-voltage switches, a key element in setting off the explosions needed to trigger a nuclear warhead.

An abstract seen by the AP on such switches bears the names of both Rezaeinejad and his co-author, Dadashnejad.

The July assassination by a pair of gunmen firing from motorcycles was similar to recent killings of two other nuclear scientists that Iran blames on the United States and Israel.

One in January killed a senior physics professor, while assailants on motorcycles attached magnetized bombs in November to the cars of two nuclear scientists. They detonated seconds later, killing one and wounding Fereidoun Abbasi, who is now Iran's nuclear chief and a deputy president.

Iran has previously blamed Israel and the West, but Abbasi, in comments Monday repeated those allegations in unusually detailed and emotional comments.

Britain's MI6 intelligence service, said Abbasi, shadowed him for six years, collecting information "regarding my past, my family, the number of my children and the way I got familiar with my spouse."

Material gathered abroad and at home extended to a check of the backdoor of his office "to see if I have bodyguards," he said.

Then the "Zionist regime" of Israel, with the support of the intelligence services of England and the United States was entrusted to carry out the killing, said Abbasi, in Vienna for a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's general conference.

Abbasi himself is suspected of links to secret arms-related work, with western intelligence saying he personally directed work on calculating the yield of a nuclear weapon. His name figures on the U.N's Iran sanctions list as someone "involved in nuclear or ballistic missile activities."

In its report on Dadashnejad, the intelligence summary describes him as playing "a key role at the center of the Iranian nuclear project."

This "explains the Iranian security forces' fears concerning the leak of the information, if their suspicions are confirmed."

The report says Iranian investigators fear that Dadashnejad's links to unspecified "unreliable elements" led to the leak.

Asked for comment on the report, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's chief IAEA representative, told the AP: "This is the first time I have heard of any such thing."

Iranian officials initially said the man killed in July was a scientist but then described him as an electronic student. But an official from an IAEA member nation said Tehran was hiding the victim's true identity, saying he helped develop high-voltage switches, a key component in setting off the explosions needed to trigger a nuclear warhead.

Iran denies it seeks nuclear weapons and insists its activities are geared only to generate fuel for a future reactor network and other peaceful purposes. But it refuses to cease activities that could be used to make such arms despite U.N. sanctions, and is stonewalling IAEA attempts to probe intelligence-based allegations that it worked on components of such weapons.

Explosives testing that can be linked to a nuclear weapons program is one of the alleged secret Iranian programs the IAEA has been trying to penetrate. Four of seven "areas of concern" listed in a section of a May IAEA report dealing with possible nuclear weapons programs experiments by Iran have to do with that issue, including suspected "high voltage firing equipment and instrumentation for explosives testing" for possible weapons applications.

Because of U.N. embargoes prohibiting the sale to Iran of sensitive nuclear technologies, it has tried to secure components clandestinely, including the high-voltage switches.

The official described Rezaeinejad as a physicist who had worked in the past for the Iranian defense ministry on projects linked to nuclear weapons development, including the switches. He asked for anonymity because his information was privileged.

Rezaeinejad ? and co-author Dadashnejad ? succeeded on his project, according to an abstract of an article presented three years ago to the 16th Conference of Iranian Power Engineering. If so that would move Iran a step closer to the technology needed to set off a nuclear explosion.

The abstract shared with the AP says the article, entitled "Designing, Manufacturing and Testing a Closing Switch" provides "details about the designing, simulating, building and testing" of such hardware.

"The said switch has been manufactured and ... the results of tests show that the switch worked properly and met expectations," said the abstract.

Such switches also have uses in medical and nonmilitary scientific applications. But a former U.N. nuclear inspector ? who also asked for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information ? said the title of the document would make "an explosive application" likely, along with the fact that Dadashnejad, the co-author, had published several separate articles about explosives testing.

Nuclear warheads are triggered by a series of conventional explosions, and the switch in question is a key piece of hardware in the process. While Iran has denied weapons intentions since its nuclear program was revealed almost a decade ago, it apparently tried to import the components nine years ago.

Back then, Eddie Johansson, a Swedish citizen of Iranian origin who changed his name from Hojat Nagash Souratgar was foiled by German customs agents in trying to smuggle 44 high-voltage switches made by Germany's Behlke Electronic GmbH to Iran.

DISH To Tap Netflix Customers

The low-priced leader in the U.S pay TV industry, Dish Network Corp. (NASDAQ:DISH), in an attempt to capitalize on the recent price hike from the leading on-demand internet streaming media Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) plans to announce its new video streaming service rates on September 23, 2011.

Recently, DISH Network acquired Blockbuster Inc for $228 milion. The acquisition of Blockbuster enables DISH Network to offer several movie streaming services over the Internet, thus efficiently countering the competitive threats from cheap online movie distribution companies like Netflixand Hulu.

Netflix is one of the leading online video distribution company with a huge subscriber base of around 25.6 million across the U.S. The company recently changed its business model by charging $7.99 to subscribers opting for unlimited DVDs-by-mail and $7.99 for unlimited video streaming services. Increased rates were mainly attributable to higher content cost from TV distribution companies.

Earlier, both the services were offered by Netflix under a single plan of $9.99 per month. However, this sudden rate hike by the company provides the opportunity for Dish to tap those price sensitive customers. So we expect the price to be charged by Dish Network will be lower than the current price charged by its close rival Netflix. ?

In recent times, the demands for watching online movies are gaining huge popularity. The availability of tablets and smartphones will further entice people toward such video streaming services.

Companies like Netflix and Hulu, which are offering such online movie services at cheaper rates, tasted huge success in the recent past, thus allowing other big players like Amazon.com, inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) to cash in on the opportunity. These companies has also started offering online movie rentals at cheaper rates, thus intensifying the competition further.

DISH Network is slowly transforming itself from a low-priced leader in the U.S. pay-TV industry to a premium service provider in order to reduce its subscribers? churn rate.

Moreover, DISH Network?s continuous acquisition plans as well as the installation of two-way hybrid satellite-terrestrial broadband network, which will enable the company to offer transaction-based video-n-demand and high-speed Internet services, will act as positive catalysts for the stock going forward.

However, stiff competition from other cable and satellite TV operators coupled with continuous loss of subscribers and higher unemployment rate in U.S.,which resulted in lower disposable income for households, may act as headwinds for the company going forward.

We, thus, maintain our long-term Neutral recommendation for DISH Network. Currently, DISH Network has a Zacks #3 Rank, implying a short-term Hold rating on the stock.

Liechtenstein rejects plan to legalize abortion

Voters in the tiny principality of Liechtenstein on Sunday rejected a plan to legalize abortion, following a bitterly fought campaign that saw the country's prince threaten to veto the proposed change in the law.

Opponents won the referendum with a majority of 514 votes, out of 11,510 ballots cast. The official count put no-votes at 52.3 percent, ahead of 47.7 percent who favored the plan to decriminalize abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy or if the child is severely disabled.

Under existing law, women who have an abortion risk one year imprisonment, except in cases where the mother's life is in danger or she is under 14 at the time she got pregnant. Doctors who carry out an abortion can go to prison for three years.

Campaigners for the change argued that the threat of prosecution meant women had to go secretly to neighboring Austria or Switzerland even just to get advice on their options in an unwanted pregnancy.

But opponents in the Catholic majority country warned that the proposal went too far and could lead to late-term abortions of disabled children.

Their concerns were echoed by Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, the country's de facto ruler, who said in a speech last month that he would use his veto power to block decriminalization.

The move prompted backers of the change, as well as democracy campaigners, to accuse him of interfering in the democratic process and of discouraging people from voting.

The outcome of the vote means a counterproposal backed by Liechtenstein's two main political parties is likely to come before the country's parliament and people soon.

Under the alternative proposal, which Alois has yet to comment on, abortion will continue to be a criminal offense in Liechtenstein. But having an abortion abroad wouldn't be punished anymore.

Post-WWII plane pilot dies in W.Va. air show crash (AP)

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. ? The pilot of a post-World War II plane died Saturday after crashing into a runway and bursting into flames, the second deadly air show crash in 24 hours.

The West Virginia Air National Guard said that no spectators were injured and that the crash site was far away from anyone at the show. Still, air show officials posted a notice on their website encouraging those who witnessed the crash to seek support if they felt viewing it had been traumatic.

The crash occurred a day after a stunt pilot crashed at a Nevada air show Friday, killing nine.

"We were fortunate that the safety measures put in place by the Federal Aviation Administration ensured the safety of those on the ground," Maj. Gen. James Hoyer, adjutant general of the West Virginia National Guard, said in a statement. "Right now our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of the deceased."

Officials have not released the pilot's name. The fixed-wing, single-engine T-28 plane is registered to John Mangan of Concord, N.C., and was built in 1958, according to a Federal Aviation Administration registry.

The Journal of Martinsburg ( http://bit.ly/nJ268P) reports the aircraft lost control during a six-plane stunt formation and then crashed on a runway near hangers at the airfield, causing thousands at the show to cry, hug and pray afterward.

The plane was part of the T-28 Warbird Aerobatic Formation Demonstration Team, which performs at air shows around the country.

The team is known as the Trojan Horsemen and its website says Jack "Flash" Mangan is part of the alternate wing. His biography on the site says he is a former Air Force fighter pilot who won three Meritorious Service Medals and Tactical Air Command's Instructor Pilot of the Year.

A message left at Mangan's North Carolina home was not immediately returned on Saturday.

According to The Boeing Co.'s website, the North American T-28 Trojan was a basic trainer that was used by the U.S Navy, including for carrier operation. Its first flight was in 1949 and it was designed to transition pilots to jet aircraft.
