94% The Guard

Despite the hype around this film, The Guard is one of the worst movies I've seen in my entire life. This film is nowhere near as good as Hot Fuzz. This film IS like Hot Fuzz... only not funny! The film revolves around a garda (police officer) played by Brendan Gleesan but his character, Gerry Boyle, is not just some old-fashioned, narrow-minded Irish man. Boyle is a lazy, selfish, heartless, corrupt, overweight middle-aged man who doesn't do his job, shows little respect to those who die in the film, threatens children with physical violence, tampers with evidence, goes to Disneyland (by himself which is pathetic) and has sex with prostitutes. HOW is THAT even funny!?An African-American FBI agent named Wendell Everett (played by Don Cheadle) is the only half-decent character in the film because he is serious about his job but looses points because the character is rather generic. Most of the supporting characters are also unlikeable from most of the Garda force showing little concern or sympathy (much like Boyle) towards people in distress and the characters who are decent are shown very little in the film. One characters dies sometime after the beginning of the film, his is upset and the Garda were rude and insensitive towards the woman in belief it's nothing serious. The Guard is Dead Baby Comedy 101.Even the plot about drug-trafficking feels inconsistent, ranging from how much the drugs were to almost being non-existent to point it can only be summed up a narrative mess.Believe me, I watched the entire film and analyzed it to the core and this film is SO bad, it leaves an impression the Irish are the funny people on the planet. Watch Hot Fuzz instead, it's more funny, the characters are more likeable and it's executed much better than The Guard.
