Kidsnests Crows Nest's Ella Irvine nominated for Early Childhood ...

LOCAL childcare worker Ella Irvine believes the best way to truly understand kids is to be a big kid at heart yourself.

Mrs Irvine, who works at Kidsnests Crows Nest, has been nominated for a major award for her early education and childcare work.

She is in the Early Childhood Educator of the Year category of the Australian Family Early Education and Care Awards.

Mrs Irvine, who has been employed full-time at the centre for two years, said she was over the moon when told of the honour last week. While she suspects her boss, she is not sure who might have made the nomination.

"I was at work when I got the call and I just thought: 'Wow, this is very exciting'," she said. "I've always loved children, I'm just a big kid myself. I love trying to see the world through their eyes," she said.

Mrs Irvine said the centre strives to create a family environment that is very hands on with the kids by interacting with them all the time.

Each received nomination will be reviewed by Australian Family who will compile a shortlist.

Shortlisted finalists from each state will be presented to a judging panel made up of professionals in the early childhood sector ahead of a gala awards ceremony in May next year.

Tania Sparrow of Family Day Care, Artarmon has also been nominated for the prestigious award.
