The Right Summerhouse Environment - home improvement stories ...

A good well built summerhouse can be a real asset to any garden, you can make it in to a real home away from home, and a room that you can make in to your own little hidey hole away from the children and the stresses of life.

Yet if it is always too hot or too cold you may end up not using it very much at all, and this is a common problem many people experience with the erratic weather in the United Kingdom. However it is now very easy to install power points in a summer house, meaning that you can easily install heating or even air conditioning to help you get the temperature inside to always be at the right level. Doing so can transform a summer house from a room that is barely used into something that is usable every day making it ideal for use as a home office as an example.

Not only that by installing air conditioning in your summer house you will eliminate any damp from building up even in Winter. Indeed whilst most people think of air conditioning as just providing cold air, air conditioning units actually remove a lot of moisture from the air (hence why you feel de-hydrated after a long air flight). This means you will avoid black damp spots appearing on the inside walls. It will also keep it lovely and cool on a nice Summers day.

Heating will also allow you to use it as a home office on cold Winters days. Of note though is that many air con units provide heating as well as cooling.

Just be aware that you need to check with your insurance company if your summerhouse is insured if you have a heater in it, this is because not all insurance companies will insure your summerhouse if fitted with an electric heater. Failure to declare an electric heater in your summerhouse could invalidate your insurance claim in the event of a fire.

Thus if you have a summerhouse or are considering buying one, then it is also a good idea to budget for heating and/or cooling to ensure that you always have the right environment inside it, as that way you will use it far more, and be able to do so all year round, maximising the return on your investment.

After all there is nothing worse than not wanting to sit in it, as it is too hot!
