Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes React to Tracy Morgan Anti-Gay Comments

Comedians Chris Rock and Wanda Sykes have spoken out against 30 Rock actor Tracy Morgan's anti-gay tirade at a recent Nashville show.

Rock, known for toeing the line during his own shows, initially defended Morgan's remarks, tweeting Friday, "I dont know about you, but I dont want to live in world where Tracy Morgan cant say foul inappropriate shit."

GLAAD promptly fired back on Twitter, "Language about stabbing kids for being gay isn?t ?foul.? It?s dangerous."

The organization's reply -- and countless others from outraged fans -- prompted Rock to apologize for his tweet in a blog post on Saturday.

"When i first heard the statement i thought it was offensive but it also reminded me of my father saying ill kill you if you ever bring home a white girl but after reading everything tracy said . wow i get it that shit wasn't called for and i don't support it at all," he wrote.

Sykes also took to Twitter to comment on the Morgan controversy. The former host of The Wanda Sykes Show expressed disappointment with the comic's statements and blamed the atmosphere in Nashville for encouraging him.

"I fault the TN lawmakers. They've created an anti-gay environment," she tweeted at Morgan. "Don't believe Tracy would be so ignorant in LA. I do believe in free speech, but for a youth in TN or any other numerous place, Tracy just yelled, ?Fire,? in a crowded theater."

Sykes then set her sights on Rock's original tweet, though she didn't name him. "Ok, piss?d reading, ?I don?t want 2 live n a world where Tracy can?t say?? I Do! U Keep the world, just break me off an evolved country,? she wrote.

She also criticized CNN's Roland Martin, who argued in a column that Morgan's comments were acceptable because of his profession.

"Ro, I love and respect you, so I feel that I can tell you that your column is some bullshit," Sykes tweeted. "We can do better."

Rock and Sykes are not the first celebrities to speak out against Morgan's homophobic jokes, which included a line about stabbing his son if he were gay. 30 Rock creator Tina Fey called the rant "disturbing," while NBC's Robert Greenblatt apologized on behalf of the network.

Morgan has already apologized for the statements, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context."
